Kommentar/Beschreibung

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge in Machine Learning and Data Mining is helpful. Deriving high-quality information from text data presents a lot of difficulties. Simple statistical measures might be adequate for coarse document categorization methods, like, e.g., in spam detection, but are hardly useful in tasks that require a deeper semantical understanding of the content, for example for document summarization. This course will deal with machine learnign and data mining techniques that focus on the difficultes present in textual data. Methods considered in this course will include EM for semi-supervised document classification, Self-organizing maps for document analysis, as well as text mining methods for online data, e.g. twitter.
